Combat Inequality as a Leader in a Variety of Fields
Our students are made up of formal and informal educators as well as those in community-based organizations. They are bilingual, special education, math, science and history teachers, as well as policy analysts and heads of racial justice and migrant education programs.
The impact is wide-reaching. How social injustice cuts across various institutions—particularly schooling—and what policies and actions can be implemented to make communities more just is a major focus for this degree.
What separates UTEP’s program from others is its breadth. The degree examines race and racism, but extends to other kinds of oppressions. There are courses in feminism transnational and post-colonial feminism, critical disability studies and environmental racism. Overall, the program shines a light on social inequities and brings all of that work together to inform those who are becoming teachers, leaders and researchers in a variety of fields.
Although this program does not provide teaching certifications, it prepares you to explore different career paths.
The demand for leaders in this area is apparent. We’ve even received job postings from other colleges who are looking to hire professionals with this degree. Take a look at the types of positions that are available to you when you graduate.
