UTEP’s MSW Coursework

The UTEP Online MSW program offers a 60-credit curriculum that combines 17 core courses and 3 electives, designed to build your critical thinking, ethics, and hands-on social work skills. You’ll explore social work theory, policy and clinical assessment, and dive into specialized topics like social work in the border region. You’ll also gain valuable experience with two advanced practicum placements, putting your learning into action. With elective courses in areas like social work with aging populations, military families, and trauma-informed practice, you can tailor your education to match your career goals and passions.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for admission to the UTEP Master of Social Work program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.00
  • Hold an earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Have completed an undergraduate statistics course (within the last 5 years) with a grade of C or better
  • Have completed an undergraduate course in general biology, anatomy, or physiology with a grade of C or better

Ensure you submit:

  • A completed graduate admissions application and application fee
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions
  • Personal essay
  • Résumé
  • Three recommendation letters
  • MSW degree plan preference form
  • Experiences summary form

International students: Submit TOEFL scores (79 iBT or 550 paper-based) if English is not your first language.
